About us

For those of you who don’t already know – Cat and John are two American travelers from New York. When they met in June 2013, John thought he’d impress Cat with his bold plans for travel. Unfortunately, she was unimpressed but agreed to have dinner with him nonetheless – a girl’s got to eat, right?

Little did they know that less than a year later they would be at the airport with a one-way ticket to Rome and plans to spend the next year together embarked on a journey around the world. How did it these plans take hold you might ask?

Well, John and Cat both spent their days behind desks working in Manhattan. After 5 years of the hectic New York City pace, John felt the grip of what John Steinbeck described well in a quote his sister told him about when he needed ideas for a blog title:

“I saw in their eyes something I was to see over and over in every part of the nation – a burning desire to go, to move, to get under way, anyplace, away from any Here. They spoke quietly of how they wanted to go someday, to move about, free and unanchored, not toward something but away from something. I saw this look and heard this yearning everywhere in every state I visited. Nearly every American hungers to move.”

― John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America

Cat, after two years in the city that never sleeps, agreed – well at least with the always being hungry part.   So that’s how their journey began – seeking adventure, new experiences and hopefully a few good meals along the way.

  3. Hi Cat and John
We are totally jealous that you are “carefree” and “happy” along a new trail. Being home after the Camino Trail has been an adjustment and
although we are enjoying the luxuries of home we feel we perhaps could become “homeless” and enjoy owning “only” a backpack! Look after yourselves.
